We’re delighted you’re considering opening your home as part of a Homeshare arrangement. Homeshare Scotland connects people like you—who may need a bit of support or company at home—with someone who is kind, trustworthy, and happy to help in exchange for affordable accommodation.

It’s a flexible, respectful arrangement designed to support your independence and peace of mind while offering companionship and practical help.

You’ll offer a welcoming home and a private room for your sharer. Together, we’ll help you agree house rules and expectations before the match begins. This might include quiet times, shared meals or what help you’d find most useful.

You must be willing to welcome someone of a different culture or ethnicity to you and should be able to commit to a minimum of 9 months for the homesharing arrangement.

You must be willing to disclose any spent or unspent criminal convictions which won’t automatically exclude you from the process but must be shared with us.

What You Can and Can’t Expect from Your Sharer

They’ll offer around 10 hours of help per week (like shopping, errands, tech help, or just being present in the evenings)
They are not a carer and will not provide personal or medical care
They have their own life – work, study, or social commitments
They’ll treat you and your home with respect
We’ll support you both in agreeing boundaries and staying in regular contact
There will be an arranged understanding of the approximate number of nights a week that the sharer will live in your home. This is usually 6/7 nights. For any extended holidays or time away from home the sharer should give you notice.
